![]() The Betfred World Snooker Championships are certainly keeping everyone guessing, what with the shock exit of the world number one Ronnie O’Sullivan and then John Higgins proving that even when it looks like he is going to be knocked out that there is still life left. This is certainly going to be one tournament where it is practically anyone’s guess who will emerge Champion at the finals due to take place on Monday 4th May. The Betfred World Snooker Championships quarter finals see Stephen Hendry (ranked world number 6) playing Shaun Murphy (ranked world number 3), John Higgins (ranked world number 5) playing Mark Selby (ranked world number 4), Mark Allen playing Ryan Day (ranked world number 8) and Neil Robertson (ranked world number 10) playing Stephen Maguire (ranked world number 2). Betfred has Stephen Maguire the current favourite to win the Betfred World Championships outright with odds of 7/2, John Higgins has odds of 4/1 as does Mark Selby. Betfred has Mark Allen as the current outsider with odds of 10/1. It is possible to keep abreast of all the Betfred World Snooker Championships action as the tournament is being screened on British Eurosport, BBC One, BBC Two channels and BBCi player. The Crucible the home of the World Championships for the last 32 years is hopefully going to retain the privilege of hosting the Betfred World Championships when the contract comes up for renewal next year. There had been some concerns that the Betfred World Championships might be hosted as far away as China or the Middle East, but it is believed that this is now unlikely to happen. Sheffield is synonymous with snooker and it is believed that a new three year contract will ensure that this magnificent tournament stays in its proper ‘home’.
