The long awaited fight between Amir Khan and Marco Antonio Barrera took place last Saturday and what a boxing match it turned out to be. There was a certain amount of trepidation in the air prior to the fight that Khan could possibly end his career if a win was not forthcoming. However once the gloves were on and the bets placed the British boxing fans could breath a sigh of relief as it soon became apparent that Khan was holding his own and giving the Mexican a run for his money, and not only did Khan eventually win but the boy also did good!

The betting odds were a bit up and down before the bout but Khan was mainly the bookies favourite Bet 365 were accepting bets with odds of 8 /13 for Khan to win. Some bookies could not decide who the favourite was so offered bets of 5/6 for both Khan and Barrera. Surprisingly although Bet 365 had Khan as the favourite they were still conscious of Khan’s doubtful chin so offered bets of 11/4 for Barrera to knock out Khan. Luckily for all the fans this was not ever going to happen as Khan seemed to outclass Barrera from the outset.

A clash of heads caused a nasty gash to Barrera’s head in the first round and made the whole spectacle a rather grizzly affair. Khan made good use of his now refreshed boxing skills to take the win in the fifth, courtesy of the problematic cut. Barrera’s camp have the win by Khan as a technicality but this was not the case Khan was the more dominant fighter from the outset clearly wanting to annihilate the memories of his dismal first round loss six months prior to Prescott. The medics put paid to Barerra continuing but it was only a matter of time before Khan would have won anyway, the final cards from the judges were returned scoring 50-45, 50-45, 50-45 with one round scoring 10-8. The future for Khan is bright and we here at the Betting Hideout looking forward to reporting on many further victories for this talented fighter from Bolton.
