![]() There has been much news published via press releases at the weekend regarding Coral online betting site and bookmakers being the official sponsors of the prestigious Players Darts Championships, held each year in Essex at the Circus Tavern. Well as much as we are excited here at the Hideout that Coral are getting behind British darts, we are a little confused why Coral are releasing this information to the media when not only is this fairly old news but also that the said tournament has already been played and won by Phil Taylor. There is certainly no hope of betting on this tournament as it is well and truly over. This years exciting inaugural event took place on the 30th January 2009, and had 32 of the best darts players in the country competing for the title. The Professional Darts Corporation themselves featured all the action and the event was televised on ITV4. Coral the online betting and gaming site and high street bookmakers have, by being the official sponsor helped with the exposure of darts betting and it is hoped that the popularity of this exciting and somewhat underestimated sport will increase even more. Darts has regained some of its former popularity over the past few years and the prize money available proves testament to how serious the game has become. This year there was a whopping £200,000 prize fund available for the winner and runners up, and Phil Taylor the Coral Players Champion 2009 scooped a very attractive £50,000. We are not sure if the press releases were sent out in error or if it is a way of stimulating further interest in darts betting, whichever we are happy to cover the story but are still a little confused – if anyone at Coral are reading this can they shed some light please?
