England Cricket

Further to the shocking developments in Mumbai the England Cricket Team’s tests scheduled with India and due to be played in Ahmedabad and Mumbai were cancelled. This was due to the enormity of the terrorist situation and potential security threats for the England cricket team, Indian Cricket team and their fans. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the ECB have been in constant talks regarding security issues, to try to find a solution that will allow the cricket tests to continue.

BCCI Announce relocation of test to Chennai and Mohali

The BCCI have just released a press announcement that these fixtures have now been relocated to Chennai and Mohali, which are a long way from the current terrorist activity and in much safer areas which are considered to be far less of a terrorist threat.

If the ECB feel that the England Cricket team will be less of a target then these matches should go ahead on the 11th December in Chennai and 19th December 19th in Mohali. There had been a warm-up scheduled for 5-7th December at Baroda but this has now been cancelled. It has been reported that the England cricket team are keen to return to India as soon as it is deemed to be safe to do so, however Hugh Morris the Managing Director of the ECB has assured team members that anyone not wishing to return will not be forced to do so. It is hoped that there will be official confirmation that the England cricket team will be participating and that these relocated fixtures will go ahead shortly.

The BCCI have released a statement offering the condolences of the BCCI and the Indian Cricket team to the families of those killed or who have suffered injuries in Mumbai.
