Matt Smith To Be New Doctor

We can now report that Matt Smith is to be the eleventh BBC Time Lord, he takes his place with the elite set of actors who have played the role since the television debut of Doctor Who in 1963. Matt at 26 will be the youngest ever to play one of the most sought after roles on television, and is named after much speculation and comes no doubt as a bit of a shock to the bookies who had favoured Paterson Joseph to replace David Tennant who will step down from the Tardis at the end of the year. William Hill had closed the book on all Doctor Who betting believing Joseph as the only likely candidate for the role.

Matt Smith will finally appear on British television in the coveted role in 2010 and has some 6 months to familiarise himself with his character before filming starts. The long wait for the announcement to be made came at the end of a special programme Doctor Who Confidential which was aired at 5.35pm on Saturday 3rd September and finally closed all speculation for likely candidates which had included the likes of not only Matt Smith and Paterson Joseph but also David Morrissey, Sean Pertwee (son of one of the all time classic Doctors Jon Pertwee), former Cold Feet star James Nesbit, Russell Tovey, James McAvoy, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dirty Pretty Things actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and Billie Piper.

Matt will join a new creative team for the Doctor Who series, at the helm are Steven Moffat and Piers Wenger the new Executive Producers who were given the daunting task of casting the new Doctor Who. Rising to the challenge and now relieved that the cast is finally out of the bag the team cannot wait until filming for the new series finally begins.
