The England Cricket team have returned to India in the face of the continued terrorist threat, with the usual British stiff upper lip and aplomb that our Nation has long been famous for. Undeterred by the security threat both teams in the England v India test match played the first Test at 9.30 am on Thursday 11th December at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which was formerly named Madras. England and India lined up ten minutes before the start of the England v India test match to hold a one minute silence for those tragically killed, with both teams sporting black armbands as a sign of respect. The England cricket team have decided to make a charitable donation of half their match fees, estimated as £35,000 to the aid of the victims of the Mumbai terrorist attacks. Extreme weather conditions hampered practice before the match with heavy downpours of rain, this affected the betting odds that bookies were giving as a draw was expected due to the weather. The cricket however was played without any problems from the weather, however a reversal of fortunes gave England something to smile about. The England cricket team although not previously on form, had given India a run for their money on the second day with India batting very poorly. The bookies were concerned that they may receive a bloody nose and so England suddenly changed position to odds on favourite to win. India had previously been the bookies favourite due to their recent superb play and England’s previous lacklustre performance, the change in fortunes for England was very short lived with India making huge strides with Virender Sehwag’s magnificent play, which ultimately took this test to a more even playing field. At time of writing England and India are due to play their final day of cricket with the outcome anyone’s guess. The second Test due to commence on December 19th until the 23rd and scheduled to be played in Mohali.
