![]() One of the most popular horse racing events of the year is due to start on Thursday 2nd April, the Grand National at Aintree. This extremely well-loved meeting takes place over three days and sees one of the busiest times for horse race betting in the horse racing calendar. The final day is Saturday 4th April seeing the final prestigious race the John Smith’s Grand National taking place. The Grand National has traditionally been the race of the people, where everyone who doesn’t ordinarily take part in horse race betting takes the opportunity to have their annual little flutter. A full list of this year’s runners can be found at 888 Sport, with up to the minute odds. The current favourite listed at 888 Sport is My Will with odds of 8/1, seemingly fully recovered since having a leg injury, Paul Nicholls the trainer of the 9 year old said "Everything has gone to plan since, and his run at Cheltenham was the best of his career. I've read he's not big enough for Aintree, which is nonsense. He's a good 16.2 hands, a big, strong, lovely black horse. He's well in at the weights, is in great form and has a touch of class." Two other horses to watch out for on the day are Southern Vic with odds of 14/1 and Snowy Morning with odds of 25/1at 888 Sport, or if you fancy a shot at last year’s winner Comply or Die the odds at 888 Sport are 16/1. The Grand Nation is renowned as much for the amount of casualties both runners and riders are often injured each year. Since the Grand National began there have been 57 horses and one jockey who have lost their lives in this controversial race, which features 30 fences. Some of the fences have also become world famous in their own right, in particular Becher’s Brook.
