Everyone has no doubt heard of the record £80m transfer bid for Cristiano Ronaldo, and love him or loathe him everyone must admire the fact that the Portuguese winger can command such a price, and that any club even Real Madrid, is prepared to pay such a fee. Betfair as you might expect are hot on the case and are offering up various markets to attract the punters, one Betfair market asking the question has Ronaldo played his last match for Manchester United or will he be back on the 3rd September? So, is he finished at Manchester United? The ‘Yes’ bettors at Betfair have the odds currently at 14/1 or will he still be a registered player and remain at Manchester United? The odds for this Betfair market are currently very low at 1/5.

Of course it has been well known for some time that Ronaldo was keen to exit stage left, and with such a bid on the table from Real Madrid, Fergie would have been more than a little silly not to accept it. Still is any player really worth such a ridiculous fee? The silly monopoly money numbers being offered for players in a time of world wide economic crisis is in rather bad taste and exceptionally bad timing. With many fans now contemplating whether they can actually afford their season ticket the value placed on such a player must leave a nasty taste in the mouth. Real Madrid of course have not restricted themselves to purchasing only one player, they have already agreed to purchase Kaka for what was previously to the Ronaldo fee a world breaking £59m.

It will now have to be left to see how the pair perform at Real Madrid, but one thing is for sure, Kaka will be playing for all he is worth and Ronaldo will be falling for all he is worth - Watch out Real Madrid the Ego has landed!
