A boxing match of huge proportions has been announced and one which will get the British boxing fraternity both excited and a little bit worried in equal measures. The boxing match in question is that of the Marco Antonio Barrera versus our own Amir Kahn, to take place on March 14th 2009 to take place at the Manchester Evening News Arena.

Marco Antonio Barrera is without doubt a serious contender for this match, as not only does he have seven world championship wins in three different weights to his name, but also is the annihilator of the seemingly indestructible Naseem Hamed back in 2001. Amir Kahn, the 22 year old Bolton boy has the advantage of youth and an obvious hunger for the kudos of a win against such a big name, but Marco Antonio Barrera, the 35 year old Mexican has a wealth of experience on his side and will be keen to put another young British upstart in their place.

Whatever your particular viewpoint of this match it is a major feather in the cap for Frank Warren, who negotiated (some might say a little recklessly) with Don King for his boy Amir Kahn to have the opportunity to fight Barrera. Amir Kahn must be feeling a little more vulnerable than previously after suffering his first ever defeat which resulted in a 54 second knock at the hands of Breidis Prescott on 6th September last year. Kahn rather admirably did not allow this defeat to crush him and stepped up to the plate to fight Oisin Fagan on December 7th last year, renewed and hungry to put the past behind him. Amir Kahn achieved this with a stoppage in the second round providing him with the WBA international lightweight title.

Bet365 is offering odds at the moment of 8/13 on a win for Amir Kahn, and odds of 6/5 for Marco Antonio Barrera to win, odds of course are bound to change as this exciting boxing match draws closer.
